The call for candidacy for Council, along with the official form for submission, will be sent with the invitation to the General Assembly at least 90 days before the session’s opening (meaning before 4 August 2023). Although Member States submit nominations, Council members are elected in their personal capacity and do not act as representatives of the states that nominated them. The Council’s composition and function are defined by Article 5 of the Statutes, and the election itself is governed by section XV of the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly rule 59-62.
